Mary Cassatt's stunning Spanish Girl Leaning on a Window Sill makes its United States debut at the Chrysler Museum in Americans in Spain: Painting and Travel, 1820-1920. The newly documented, ca. 1872 work was one of two lost paintings discovered in the suburbs of Madrid by art historian M. Elizabeth (Betsy) Boone, Ph.D. Boone will share details about the artist, the work, and her discovery during this virtual program.

About the Speaker

 

M. Elizabeth (Betsy) Boone, Ph.D. is a Professor of the History of Art, Design and Visual Culture at the University of Alberta in Canada. She specializes in nineteenth- and twentieth-century art and is the author of The Spanish Element in Our Nationality: Spain and America at the World’s Fairs and Centennial Celebrations 1876-1915 and Vistas de España: American Views of Art and Life in Spain, 1860-1914
