Cut and solder sheet glass together to create a colorful window hanging perfect for catching rays of sunshine. Choose a sample design or create your own. Glass pieces are cut to fit the design, or “cartoon,” then wrapped with copper foil. Using a soldering iron and tin-lead solder, the glass pieces are conjoined. At the end of the course, the work will be framed with “came” (sturdy metal border) and finished with hanging hoops.

In this fused glass class, take traditional mosaic making to a new place. Learn to cut glass and use tile nippers to create imagery. In a paint-by-numbers style, small bits of colored glass will be arranged to fill the design of your choice. The gaps between the pieces are filled with glass powder, and then everything is melted in a kiln. Unlike traditional mosaics, which are opaque and involve glue and grout, this process uses only glass and results in a transparent, double-sided object.

Cut glass and arrange it to fit a 4x6” design for a soap dish. Your designs will be assembled and fused flat in a kiln at 1400º F. The soap dish shape is achieved in a second firing to 1300º F, where the flat form slumps into a ceramic mold.

In this one-day course, learn to design and cut glass to make a square glass plate. Create your own design, choose a base layer, and cut glass to match your pattern. The plate will go through two firings in a kiln. First, the glass will be fired at 1450º F to melt the pieces together. Once the kiln cools, the plate will be placed over a ceramic mold and slumped at 1350º F to achieve its final form.

Take the fused glass plate one step further! Learn the basics of cutting glass and chose from a variety of plate shapes in this 1.5-day class. First, create patterns and design and cut glass to fit these patterns. Overnight, the glass will melt in a kiln into one cohesive piece. The next afternoon, cut and rearrange the pattern to make complex visual layers. Achieve the patterns with a combination of glass sheets, stripes, and stringers (thin rods of glass), and finish the day with a unique design.

In this two-day class, journey from land to sea as you make an assortment of creatures sculpted in solid glass. The class starts with the basics of sculpting glass and the steps of creating an object. Use clear and colorful glass to assemble animal-inspired forms.

Make a blown or solid object of your choice. Create a blown ornament or sculptural bauble, or sculpt a solid object like a starfish or heart. Choose from an array of color options to make your object unique. Object availability varies by season.

Channel your inner Louise Nevelson in this exciting partnership with the 757 Creative ReUse Center. Scavage their extensive collection of upcycled and found “bits and bobs” objects to create your own unique and vibrant work of art. This class will be held at the 757 Creative ReUse Center.
Led by GSA students involved in the Wearable Arts Show and supported by GSA faculty, this unique class will focus on fashion embellishment. Inspired by Architects of Being, participants will embellish an article of clothing to learn how color, materials, and creativity combine into individual style.
