Americans in Spain Book Club: The Ornament of the World

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday April 24

3:00 PM  –  4:00 PM

Several paintings featured in Americans in Spain address Spain's Islamic history. In the eighth century, the Abbasids took control of the Islamic empire from the once-powerful Umayyads. Although Jews, Christians, and Muslims lived together in Spain in relative peace and equality for several centuries, many populations in that region were forced to leave the country or convert to Catholicism. Join Lloyd DeWitt, PhD, Chief Curator and Irene Leache Curator of European Art, to discuss how these three major religions co-existed during the Medieval period in Maria Rosa Menocal 's The Ornament of the World.
