Americans in Spain Book Club:Tales of Alhambra

This event is no longer on sale.

Sunday February 28

3:00 PM  –  4:00 PM

Though fragmented, Islamic rule extended over the bulk of Iberia for centuries, even as Christian warlords, pushing south, chipped away at Muslim territory. The work of the Reconquista came to an end with the fall of Granada and the Alhambra Palace.

In this country, Washington Irving is best remembered for his collections of American folklore, such as the stories of Rip Van Winkle and the Headless Horseman. However, people in Spain remember him for the Alhambra stories. Join Brock Curator of American Art Corey Piper PhD as he discusses the Alhambra folk tales told in Irving's inimitable, witty style.
