Chrysler Book Club: The Hare with Amber Eyes

This event is no longer on sale.

Sunday January 9

3:00 PM  –  4:00 PM

What impact does collecting have on a family's legacy? Join the Chrysler Book Club as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Walter P. Chrysler, Jr.'s gift of art to Norfolk with a virtual discussion of British ceramicist Edmund de Waal's family memoir, The Hare with Amber Eyes

De Waal tells the story of his family, the Ephrussis, a once very wealthy European Jewish banking dynasty. The Ephrussis lost almost everything in 1938 when the Nazis confiscated their property. They were unable to recover most of their belongings after the war, including priceless artwork. Luckily, 264 Japanese netsuke miniature sculptures were saved, tucked away inside a mattress by a loyal maid.
