Curator Series: Art and the Environment with Carolyn Swan Needell, PhD

This event is no longer on sale.

Sunday July 17

3:00 PM  –  4:00 PM

As the planet faces rapid changes as a result of human activity, many artists issue calls to action. While this is especially relevant today, artists have been grappling with these issues for centuries. Join the Chrysler curatorial team for five lectures that examine various approaches artists take to explore themes of the environment.

In the first lecture of the series, Look Around You: How the Environment Has Inspired Contemporary Glass Artists, Carolyn Swan Needell, PhD, the Carolyn and Richard Barry curator of glass, will showcase glassworks that are new to the Chrysler collection. Examine objects made using various glassworking techniques—blowing, flameworking, kiln forming, and hot sculpting—and discover how these artworks demonstrate the unique and intimate connections people form with their environments.
